Sitting down to write a resume is hard — there’s dozens of options when it comes to formatting, presentation, and style as well as the minor issue of what to list and write on it. As a freelancer, it becomes especially tricky since none of the traditional “rules” of resume advice seem to apply.
That’s why I’m offering you three “ready-to-go” resume templates that you can customize in less than five minutes (including one based on my own resume):
- Futura
- Modesty
- Impression
All of the resume templates are clean, simple, straight to the point — and available for free.
They’re designed to get you gigs by showcasing your qualifications and removing unnecessary formatting issues that often cause talented people to get overlooked.
Basically, these templates put the focus on you, not the resume.
It’s true a resume isn’t everything in the film industry (ahem — networking), but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t have its place. While later in your career your work will speak for itself, the resume is a necessary document early on.
These three templates are based on ideas I talk about in Becoming the Reel Deal and, while I believe they are already strong, I encourage you to tweak them to work for you. They are, after all, just templates — if you find a way to improve them, then do it!
You can easily modify them as Word documents (.doc, compatible with past versions). I also verified they opened in free alternatives such as Google Docs.
It’s been a little over two months since Becoming the Reel Deal was released and including these templates is the first of many planned upgrades to the ebook.
